Mail merge with Google docs

Hello everyone,

Has anyone is the community ever done a mail merge through Google docs/sheets? If so, what plugins do you use and how’d the process go?

One way to do a mail merge with Google Docs is to do it with Google Scripts, but this goes beyond the basics that most people are comfortable with.

If you’re looking to do a mail merge without diving into scripts, I recommend Yet Another Mail Merge (YAMM). It’s a plugin that makes the process super easy.

First, you need to open Google Sheets. Once you’re in Google Sheets, open a new or existing spreadsheet. Then, click on Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons. In the search bar, type “Yet Another Mail Merge”. Once you find it, click on it and hit Install. Follow the steps and grant the necessary permissions.

Next, you’ll want to prepare your data in Google Sheets. Make sure the first row has headers like “First Name”, “Last Name”, “Address”, etc. Fill in the rows below with the corresponding data for each person.

Now, create your letter template in Google Docs. Open a new Google Docs document and write your letter. Use placeholders like {{First Name}} and {{Last Name}} where you want the personalized information to go.

Once your template is ready, go back to your Google Sheets document. Click on Extensions, then Yet Another Mail Merge, and Start Mail Merge. A sidebar will appear on the right. Choose your Google Docs template from the drop-down menu. Select the column in your sheet that contains the recipient data.

After you’ve set everything up, click Generate Docs. YAMM will create individual Google Docs for each recipient, replacing the placeholders with their specific information. You can then review each document and print them out for your direct mail campaign.

And that’s it! This should make setting up your direct mail campaign a lot easier. Good luck with your campaign!
