MapRight Soil Report and Perc test?

Does anyone have a good understanding of MapRight’s soil report and if I can get a good idea if a property will perc from that report?

Thank you so much!

@jamesf I believe that soil data is coming from USDA for farming purposes. You might be able to get some clues from it, but it’s not really a direct correlation to a perc test, unfortunately. I like how you’re thinking though.

@retipsterseth My soil analysis matched up to Mapright/LandID soil overlays, but I still wouldn’t trust it in every situation.

@carolinajay I hear you. It’s a good starting point to get you to 70-80% certainty, but probably not enough if you have a lot of money on the line.

I’d be curious to hear how often those maps are wrong. I’m sure there must be certain parts of the country where those soil maps were compiled with less data than others.

If you are ever confused about what those soil reports mean, you can always copy and paste the information into something like Claude or ChatGPT and ask it what the data means, or if it’s suitable for building a dwelling.

Whatever it tells you, realize you’re not really giving it all the information needed to make a true determination, but if you truly have no idea what it’s telling you, it could be a good starting point to understand what’s going on.
