Hello everyone, is it better to use a realtor or an agent when trying to get your property sold? Will they still conversate with me and give me information if I decide not to use their services?
What’s the difference between the two? Aren’t they both the same thing?
There actually is a different between Realtors and Agents. We made a video explaining the differences a few years back. You can see it here:
Thanks Seth for the YouTube video will check it out👍
Listing a property for sale is a great opportunity to interview multiple Realtors (Licensed Agents, in their state(s), who pay to be a part of the National Association of Realtors, NAR) to learn more about the local market dynamics, the ways each of them work especially to market the property and especially learn who you can communicate with effectively.
I’d recommend interviewing 3-5 Realtors and compare all the details they provide and listen to their listing presentations. You hear about average prices, days on market, buyer demand (how many people are currently shopping, and more. They each will be able to advise on what to do and not to do in getting a home ready for photos and to present to buyers. The good ones will also ask about what your needs are for moving to your next living situation and find ways or ask if they can assist you with that part of your transition too.
In oregon every licensed agent is a Broker. After three years practicing as a Broker we can take more classes and be tested to be licensed Principal Broker allowing us to manage unlicensed assistants. Usually every real estate office (Brokerage) has a Managing Principal Broker who is available to oversee and manage all the licensee’s who hang their license at that Brokerage.
If a real estate agent chooses not to pay dues for NAR, they are not allowed to be called a Realtor, as it’s a registered trademark and it’s illegal to use illegitimately.
It’s a very educational process and I’m excited that you have an opportunity yo learn from practicing professionals all the ins and outs, if you decide to interview folks.
I’m happy to make recommendations to agents and realtors that are highly regarded and experienced if you would like, in any part of this great country, as I have great colleagues in every town.
A broker has received a license to sell real estate in their respective state. A REALTOR is a trade association name. It means you are a paid member of a trade association not much different than BBB. A REALTOR has access to MLS. I have been in the land world a long time and quite frankly, REALTOR distinction means zero to me.
